“Zuko?” Katara asked softly. She was tending to the garden outside of her Ba-Sing Se home. The flowers were blooming, and she wanted to keep them looking beautiful as long as possible.
“Hi, Katara.” Zuko smiled down at her and kicked the dirt by his feet nervously.
“What are you doing here?” She asked, standing up and brushing the dirt from her house dress.
“Well, Uncle asked me to come visit him. And I wasn’t sure if you and Aang would be here or at your palace in the South Pole or-“
“Aang actually isn’t here.” Katara mumbled.
“Oh, really? Did he have to go on another Avatar trip?” Zuko asked. Katara looked back down at her flowers.
It had been two years since Zuko had seen her, and they had been good years to her. She had gotten a bit taller, and she developed more. Her waist was smaller, her hips wider. And her hair was tied back in a simple pony tail, which fell in waves over her shoulder. Her blue eyes finally turned to him, watering.
“No, Aang and I split up.” She said softly.
“Oh, Katara, I’m so sorry.” Zuko stepped forward to hug her, but she put a hand on his chest.
“It’s alright. It’s for the best. We’re better friends. And he has a lot of work to do. I can’t travel with him all the time. I have a lot of business to tend to in the South Pole. He and Toph are rebuilding the Earth Kingdom right now. I think they’re on the coast.” Katara explained with a smile. “I was actually going to head home tomorrow.”
“Why don’t you stay a while?” Zuko asked after a moment of silence.
“Oh, as much as I would love to, Zuko. I’m actually moving out. Aang is keeping this house. I’ll get my own again, eventually, but for now I’m going back home.” Katara explained. Zuko noticed the crates sitting beside the door.
“Come stay at my house. We can work in the tea shop. It’ll be good for you. Keep you busy.” Zuko suggested, walking over to lift one of the crates.
“Oh, I couldn’t impose-“
“Nonsense. It was destiny that I happened upon you today. Come on. Let’s go get you settled. I’ll even escort you home when the visit is over.” Zuko smirked. Katara couldn’t do anything but smile and pick up the other crate.
I've been gone for a long time, but I'm still around. I'm mostly on Fanfiction now, but I still love Zutara Week. I've obviously ended the previous storyline. I hope you all enjoy the new and improved writing. I've spent my absent years trying my hardest to improve. If you are at all interested, my fanfiction account is mayleebaby28. I write a lot of things, and most recently I've written Jimmy Neutron and Batman fanfiction. But Zutara still holds a special place in my heart.
